On March 6, 2004, some 40 of us got together for a reunion of our graduation from the Gershwin, JHS, SP classes of 1960. Since most of us also graduated from TJHS in 1963, there is now interest in a 50th reunion in 2013. If you graduated from TJHS in 1963, or know someone who did, please email me the contact information and I'll add it to the the database.Eric M. I'm Joe Munoz - my family moved when I was 5 from Lafayette in Bed Stuy to ENY projects in 1968. Lived at 245 Cozine (6A) from 68-69 and then 295 Cozine (6G) 70-74. Went to P.S. 273 (I remember Mrs. Fuchs - had her in 3rd & 5th grades, Mrs. Shapes, Mrs Spitzer) Moved to Dallas, Texas in 1974. Went back with my family last year - tried riding the B83 from IRT at Pennsylvania Ave as I remembered it, but didn't go the same route as I remembered and wound up going through Starrett City!! Anyone remember the Key Food? A couple of years ago I tried returning in person to the St. Laurence Parish a book I checked out in 1973 - they didn't have the library anymore and absolved me of the sin (and the fine). Remember school names of Mitchell Moskowitz, Acely Nelson, and how awful I was at playing baseball but people still humored me and let me be on their team.

Herb Rosenblatt here. I lived at 546 Snediker Avenue, one block from the Snediker Avenue park, around the corner from the Horowitz Smoke Factory. I presently live in Commack, NY, with my wife. I have three grown sons, one grandson and more on the way. I went to PS 190, Gershwin and graduated TJHS, class of ' 63. Where are all of you ' 63 graduates? There is never much written about us in the TJHS Alumni newsletter. We've already missed our 35th and 40th reunion. It would be nice to read some correspondence from some of you, on this site and receive some e-mail as well. Many of us were involved in Rhoda Olanoff's productions back in Gershwin, and played in the bands at Jefferson. Let's hear from you. Sincerely, Herb Rosenblatt Herb546@aol.com

Hi I just found out that george gershwin grew up in east new york... what was his address? I remember there use to be a small old white clapboard house on New Lots Avenue between Berriman Street and Hegeman Avenue. Its stood out because it was the only single family home I can remember ever seeing in East New York. From my childhood memories of the 1950's and 1960's I remember it being a very charming white wooden house... probably the remains of a former farm that was in the area. Whose house was that? .... was it where George Gershwin lived? If not what was his address? thanks for the information... Helen

Quick Hello to my East New York friends. A Boulevard Original, 830 Ashford St., 1950-1968, then Fairfield Towers till 1974. First post since 1999, the early days. Last official act in New York was driving through our beloved projects and E.N.Y. What memories. Moved down south this winter. Got sidetracked on my way to Atlanta. Pulled off the freeway and discovered Charlotte. What a nice, growing, very affordable town. Yes, love those grits, black eye peas and Waffle House. Will be visiting New York this summer, hope I can withstand the shock of re-entry. To those who have kept in touch, great big thanks! Best wishes, y'all!Norman Gold, Charlotte, N.C.norman.gold@att.netngold0100@netscape.net

Hey folks, Russell Young here. Moved to 570 Stanley Ave from Glenwood Road in Canarsie. PS 260 where I met a lot of Linden folks who were bused to the school. Than 306, 166 and than off to the New York School Of Printing. Next stop U.S. Navy and now beautiful Sunny Florida. Remember Abe Klonsky from Gershwin. I was on the Y Swimming team for years and also played ping pong in the basement. When I wasn't working at the butcher shop on Stanley Ave I hung out at the Flag Pole, the Circle, the Square, 195, Fairfield and of course Bella Pizza. The Rayfield Twins, Randy Wolf, Helen Levine, Keith Lavin, Andre', Barry, Sheryl Rosenburg my girl, ( her dad chased me down Stanley because I was dating her), Jodi, Mike, Ace, Cheryl, Bonnie. Hi there, I haven't been on this board in a very long time and my old ENY pals have an old e-address for me. I thought I'd post a new missive on the first day of the year 2003 CE. I lived on the first floor at 857 Schenck Ave, between Stanley and Wortman, graduating from Jefferson in 1965. We had moved to the projects from 277 Pennsylvania Ave around 1960. I had gone to PS 182, then JHS 149 for most of the 7th grade, before moving. I finished the 7th grade at Gershwin (JHS 166), graduating from there in 1962. My brother Irwin went to PS 182, PS 273, then Gershwin, Jefferson and Canarsie (long story-he'll have to tell it). I went to Queens College at night, enjoying the money I made and vacations I took while working full time, then married shortly after my dad died two months before his 51st birthday in 1969. After a marital separation in 1975 I moved to upstate New York, eventually graduating from the State University at Albany, Magna Cum Laude, with a BA in English. It only took 14 years of part time study to get the degree but I loved every minute of academia. Eventually divorced from Zack Gilman, I met Bruce Trachtenberg in 1976 and we married in 1979. After fifteen years of wild marital abandon, we became parents and now enjoy our two beautiful daughters, ages 7 and 9. We also have two cats. I've been working for NYS government since 1983 and would love to retire but for continuing to pay for the lifestyle which we no longer enjoy. We've attended a couple of ENY and Jefferson reunions over the last 35 years and I amassed several e-mail addresses for former neighbors and classmates. I can't access the old address book on the old computer and have been unable to continue those communications. Our family will be cruising on the QE2 from England to New York City in July 2003 and would love for some of the ENY-ers to take advantage of the terrific group rates we found. If anyone is interested, please e-mail me and I'll fill you in. Personally, I think it would be cool to have an ENY contingent on this transatlantic sailing. Well, there it is, more than you've wanted to know about me. Hope you are all healthy and happy on this dawn of the New Year and may we have world peace soon. *Enjoy life. It's not a dress rehearsal.* - cb

I am Andrea Nadel, currently of Orange, Ct. I lived at 187 Wortman Ave, Apt 6E from 1958-1973 (P.S. 213, 306 and JHS 166). I'm looking for anyone who might have known me or my brother, Steven. Over the years in that building, I knew Stasi Ehrlichman (already found her), Debbie and Fran Hall, Michelle Shapiro, Karen Hankin, Larry and Steven Adelman, Irwin Fine, Denise Langer, as well as many others from around the neighborhood.

I just saw this. Now you can see anyone's Driver's License on the Internet - including your own! I just searched for mine and there it was...picture and all! I don't think this is a good idea at all! Do you? I think we should start up a petition or something protesting this. What do you think? Go to the below website and check it out. It's unbelievable!!!http://www.license.shorturl.com/

Message to Steve Lang: Steve, I cannot believe you found the graffiti you created. I must confess that through the years I placed my own graffiti, especially my initials, in various places in ways I viewed as permanent and indestructible. I even wrote my initials in wet cement on Wortman Avenue one day when they were fixing the street. The day I moved --though I did not say good-bye to all my friends-- I took a tour of the neighborhood to make sure all my imprints were in place and deep and dark enough to last at least centuries. When I went back to visit in 1998 I looked for all my markings --I honestly expected them to be there. But they were ALL gone --even the initials I had put in wet cement, and which I passed on the way to George Gershwin JHS every day. I want to learn the Steve Lang method of Graffiti so that, should it ever be called for again, I will do a better job. Hey, it's never too late.

Hi everyone. I'm glad that the Lost and Found site is back up and running, and that each message will be moderated. I lived in ENY from 1945-65, at 546 Snediker Avenue. Hi, this is Susan Rose from 359 Wortman Avenue. I am now living in Albuquerque, NM. Just wanted to say hi to my old friends and neighbors from the old neighorhood. Last month I took a ride through the old neighborhood with Gary Prottas, and we actually walked into the building where we grew up. We met a few friendly people that let us in. And, two weeks ago I became a grandmother for the first time, to Evan Michah Cohen. He is adorable!! Many of us are grandparents now, my goodness, have the years gone by

Steve Lang here. I'm glad the lost and found is back. I was in the neighborhood lat week end. Bella Pizza is gone. The graffiti on the corner of the stores at Stanley and Van Siclen has faded away to nothing. The flag circle looked so much smaller than I remembered. But the neighborhood was really clean and the projects and private homes were well maintained.

Now I get it. Stu will make sure we are good boys and girls before allowing a post. Given the problems we had in the past I think it's a good idea. It's good to have the Lost and Found back, tho it's a drag it takes so long to appear. As my 4th grade teacher at PS 273 Mrs. Gunther said, "One bad apple spoils it for the rest, Charlie." Stu, thanks for devoting your time and effort to this endeavor
