I remember the dairy farm very well, since we lived at 630 Stanley. The horse corral was in "the swamps," down Ashford and Cleveland Streets past the end of the Boulevard Houses toward Jamaica Bay. My friends from Elton Street and I used to shoot bows and arrows in the swamps. In 1957-58, the city built a huge storm sewer, starting at Cleveland and New Lots and emptying out into Jamaica Bay. My friends and I used to climb down a manhole on Cleveland Street and walk way out to the swamps.
