: I was really saddened to hear about Miss Olanoff dying. She really was a wonderful music teacher. She also had a great sense of humor. She once asked Jacky Shikira (sp) how he would say that she wears sun glasses and he answered "Big Mama wears shades." Stunned silence in the room -- and then she simply cracked up. Amazing -- I am a fifty year old school teacher -- and I remember that moment clearly. Great teachers never die -- nor do they fade away. :-)

i am too a school teacher and have learned much more about pushing kids to their potential from my recollections of miss olanoff than all the education classes i have ever taken put together. as i sat listening to the eulogies at her funeral, i realized how much of what i am now is directly related to her. who said there aren't anymore heroes? you just have to know where to look for them , i found mine in the first floor music room at gershwin.
