Boy do I have fond memories of P.S.273. I remember my teachers from 1st to 4th grades. Mrs. Klein, Mrs. Rush, Mrs Mandel, Mrs. Bauman. I can still smell the Brillcream on the little boys' slicked down hair. I remember the cake sales (a kid in my kindergarten class swallowed her dime) I remember snack time with the chocolate covered graham crackers and milk. How about "show and tell"? I remember the dance festivals, the science fairs, the school plays. Dr. Nevins used to call us "my boys and my girls" while rocking on the toes of his feet as he spoke to us in assembly. I remember open school week, being so proud when my mom walked in the room to observe me in my class. I loved the last day of school, but I loved the first day just as much. Thank God we have this capacity to remember. Bad memories are there as well to be sure - a mean teacher, being picked on, but I'm thankful for the great times.
