I lived in Brownsville - Bristol between Lott and Hegeman - Went to P. S. 165 thru '51 and am a '55 grad of S. J. Tilden. My parentsd owned a cleaning store on Amboy and Hegeman - used to hang out at Arky's on Amboy - Anyone out there to discuss the "olden days"?: : : i agree that it was brownsville. I lived on Alabama Ave bet Blake and Dumont from 1949 till 1957 and that was Brownsville-then moved to Bradford st bet. Linden blvd and Hegeman which was ENY. The zip is the clue.
: : : : During the last week or so I've discovered several wonderfull websites about Brooklyn. Memories long forgotten are flooding back; it's wonderful.

: : : : Question: My family lived at 910 Hopkinson Ave. and then the Jimmerson Co-ops between Hegeman and Linden Blvd. We used to call the area Brownsville-East New York. Was that area really in Brownsville or was it in East New York??

: : : : I went top PS 165 (1958 grad), Meyer Levin JHS 285 (1960 grad), and Tilden High until the end of 1961 when we moved to Queens.

: : : Hi ERika:
: Did you attend dental hygiene school in 69-70 at nyccc?
: : : Ed, I am not an expert on this, but I think you would be in the Brownsville area. I think the Brownsville boundries are the following: East New York Ave. to the north, Van Sinderen to the east,Linden Blvd or Ditmas Ave to the south and Rockaway Parkway to the west. In addition, if your zip code was 11212, you were in Brownsville, 11207 for East New York.
