Does anyone remember those little silver painted carts with coal warmed trays filled with the most amazing knishes selling on the sidewalks of eny in the mid 50's to mid 60's? ...the tall guy in combat boots banging knish tongs on the cart handle to attract cash customers near Fortunoff's dept store was a visual sound bite I won't soon forget--nor the taste of a steaming hot Mom's potatoe knish on a cold winter afternoon after schoo. anyone got the recipe???
