Tim Leary Lives By A.J.S. Rayl

This cybermemorial, however, is only in its beginning phase. Downloading Leary's extensive print archives alone will take years, not to mention editing and intercasting all of the film and video footage. Five years ago, Leary hired a multimedia team, a trio of Generations X-ers -- Graves, Joey Cavella, and Camella Grace -- otherwise known as RetinaLogic, to document his life. Once he was diagnosed as terminal, Leary became ever more intent about recording and documenting his final journey. RetinaLogic -- whose only client was/is Leary -- moved its offices into Leary's garage, decorating it in shades of screaming yellow. They are ensconced there still.

In his final days, Leary made much use of his website to get his "bumper stickers" about the taboo of death out there -- and to show others the power and immediacy of the Web. About a month before he died, Leary announced that he was considering suicide on-line. It was part of his High-Tech Designer Death plan: to control his own irreversible deanimation, share it with friends and family, document it, and then intercast it over the Web via his Home Page. Leary was being true to form in announcing such a provocative plan. In reality, however, things didn't happen quite that way.
