McLuhan was a Canadian humanities professor who became a mass communications specialist. His 1964 book "Understanding Media" unleashed the phrase "The medium is the message." In essence, McLuhan's beliefs emanated from the concept that the content of communication is determined by the means with which it is communicated, and that television is transforming the way we think and perceive.
