Immerse yourself in fields so green and water so blue the colors seem surreal. Explore a tenth-century castle by firelight, or para-sail over the English Channel, inches above a rockycliff . . . If you have the time, you might book a trip to the Isle of Purbeck, the paradise locale frequently mentioned in the writings of 19th-century English novelist Thomas Hardy, and a favorite destination for the romantic to this day. But if you're stuck at home, you're in luck -- just take the digital tour, via artist Jeremy Gardiner's evocative interactive sketchbook/CD-ROM.

In his latest work, Gardiner has revisited this island playground of his youth, spinning form and color into a 3-D futurescape accessible to anyone with a PC. Art aficionados who take the virtual tour might, at first, feel as if they have entered "a cleverly constructed travel log," Gardiner warns, "but it's actually about the passage of time and my persistence in remembering my childhood and the places where I would play."
