The H. R. Giger Exhibition
The name H.R. Giger stands for thirty years of fantasy art. Born in
Switzerland in 1940, he first achieved acclaim in the 1960's with his
airbrush fantasy landscapes; but his true breakthrough came in applied
art, particularly in highly visible movie work. Especially notable is
Giger's design for Ridley Scott's 1978 Alien, which earned a him
an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. His album covers for Debbie
Harry and Emerson, Lake and Palmer were voted among the top hundred in
music history by music journalists. His work has also appeared in other
Alien films as well as Poltergeist II. Furniture designed
by Giger graces bars in Tokyo, where a special four level "Giger-Bar
was created in 1988; a similar environment was created in his hometown
of Chur, Switzerland, in 1991. Most recently Giger designed the alien,
Sil, for the blockbuster movie Species.

Prepare to enter the netherworld of H.R. Giger's rich imagination, come face to face with his alien creatures, and traverse the erupting landscapes of this celebrated artist's vision. In the world of science fiction writer Clive Barker, Giger's hypnotic work "has a power that demands close and reflective study" without which "the ambiguities at the heart of the work remain unexplored."
Giger was interviewed live on OMNI Prime
