Certainly I remember Sol's Famous Frappes, on New Lots not far from Pennsylvania Avenue. My folks, who grew up in ENY, knew Sol from their youth, and took the family to his place periodically. My father invariably asked for butter pecan ice cream, and Sol just as invariably said he'd have to go to the basement to get some (never did). I don't remember Izzy's--our favorite deli was Gorelick's, on New Lots not far from Sol's. I gave up eating at Gorelick's after I discovered that Nino's Pizzeria, on New Lots across from the Biltmore, would serve me beer at age 15.
