My father invariably asked for butter pecan ice cream, and Sol just as invariably said he'd have to go to the basement to get some (never did). I don't remember Izzy's--our favorite deli was Gorelick's, on New Lots not far from Sol's. I gave up eating at Gorelick's after I discovered that Nino's Pizzeria, on New Lots across from the Biltmore, would serve me beer at age 15.
