Douglas E. Winter, a partner in the internationally based law firm of Bryan Cave LLP, is the author or editor of nine books (including Stephen King: The Art of Darkness, Faces of Fear and Prime Evil) and has published more than 200 articles and short stories. A member of the National Book Critics Circle, he is recognized as a leading critic of contemporary horror fiction and film, and has been hailed as "the conscience of horror and dark fantasy." He is book columnist for The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction and Cemetery Dance, and music columnist for Video Watchdog. He won the World Fantasy Award for Faces of Fear, and he has been nominated several times for that award (including twice for his own fiction), as well as for the Hugo Award and the Bram Stoker Award. He received the International Horror Guild Award twice, for his short story "Black Sun" (1994) and his short story "Loop" (1995). His forthcoming books include a trilogy of short stories, American Zombie, and a critical biography of Clive Barker.
