Welcome to High Strangeness! My name is Patrick Huyghe and our guest tonight is Larry Warren, author (with Peter Robbins) of the new book "Left at East Gate." The book and our chat tonight is about the "Bentwaters Incident".

On three consecutive nights in late December 1980, the area around RAF Brentwaters, a NATO base in England, was the setting for a mysterious series of encounters between the military and UFOs. Larry Warren, a former USAF Security Specialist, was on duty the third night when he witnessed something that the military tried desperately to cover-up the next day. "Bullets are cheap," he was told. Nonetheless Warren has come forward with his story.

Larry, let's start with a few questions that will give viewers unfamiliar with the incident some background. Something happened at Bentwaters on three consecutive night. In brief, what happened the first night?

The incident on the third night 28/29 Dec 1980 is quite complex. My experience on that night is best recounted in whole in "Left At East Gate", and yes! there was a non-human presence both filmed and photographed.

Ground contact by an unknown craft, witnessed by numerous military and civilian witnesses.....filmed and photographed. Senior command personnel involved. I was also present and on sight for aproximately 45 minutes. Evidence of this incident at ground zero is still present nearly 17 years later.

The object on the ground was larger than that reported on the first night. Triangular in shape. Distorted when one looked directly at it.....a mother of pearl like effect. Three or possibly more "entities" seen by numerous personnel. I saw three. I saw what I can only describe as arm movement......and one of these things did move its head. I left the sight and the encounter was still in progress with senior base command personnel present.

You don't mention until the very end of the book that the UFO fired laserlike beams into the nuclear storage areas at Bentwater. When did this happen? Did you see this?

Good question. No I did not witness that activity. However, our former deputy base commander Charles Halt, told that aspect of the incident to my co-author and myself in person in Washington D.C. in 1993. Note....Raf Bentwaters/Woodbridge housed the largest stockpile of tactical battlefield class nuclear weapons. This fact was and still is kept secret from the people of Great Britain. And in my opinion what Mr. Halt told us constitutes at the very least an incident of extreme defense signigicance to us all.

No, however, the document authored by Mr. Halt two weeks after the fact fails to mention many elements of these extremely important events. It is my belief that Mr. Halt is still not able to discuss our arsenol at the twin bases so I ask how is he free to discuss these incidents in any depth even today.

To the best of my knowledge two new and as of yet unknown witnesses to night 3 have come forward since the publication of "Left At East Gate". The book itself is full of supporting known witness testimony, documentation, etc. and people will have to determine whose "version" has the most support. It is my belief and many others that were this book presented to any court of law as a legal case we would win hands down in England and the US. These events surpass Roswell or what is eledged to have happened there one hundred fold. The reader will have to decide for themselves.

Besides new witnesses who by the way did not know that this case had ever been public until now, a ground swell of anger by the people of Great Britain who are now demanding answers about this most serious matter.

We have received regards from England's new Prime Minister Tony Blair. We feel that as the months progress many other witnesses will finally feel safe enough, confident enough and committed to finally bring these events that cannot be denied in front of the Congress of the United States.

Right, debriefed within hours of the event, but to move ahead a bit in 1983 my military record was classified by the NSA and remains so. Also, a fact that has been ignored by some of the clowns in the UFO research community is that my US passport was officially suspended by the Department of State acting on orders from DOD, this suspension lasted 11 months and was only rescinded with the help of former US attorney general Ramsey Clark. This was a first for any "aledged" ufo witness. Can my detractors in ufo land explain that?

Yes I do. I agree fully with the research compiled by Stanton Freidman. I also think some of the blaim should lie with Orson Wells based on his 1938 radio broadcast. That was the only measure our government had in 1947 when Roswell "happened".

My NSA file is in reality my military record which should be in St. Louis. That has been attempted by many people other than myself including Mr. Halt but with no success. I go into detail on that matter in "Left At East Gate" to complex to pursue here.

Indeed I have. Some people may not like this but, I don't either, my co-author and I had a full blown ufo incident near RAF Bentwaters also witnessed by active security police in February 1988. Our reactions were recorded and are fully transcribed in "EAST GATE" (wish I had a camera!)

While you lived in New York City breifly you saw UFOs frequently. Obviously most people there don't. How do you explain this? What this notion of Warren as "lightning rod"?

To make a correction I saw a couple unknown craft over the city of NY during the summer of 1988. Sadly, I have had the phenomena in my life thru out my life witnessed by many credible people around me. Lightning rod the expression does seem to fit. I do not apologize nor can I explain my frequency of sightings.

ps. John Lennon saw as did many others a ufo over East Manhattan on August 23, 1974 and he never made apologies for his sightings over the city as well.

Getting back to the cover-up part of your story...Now what I don't understand is why you would be brought in for no other purpose than to see this object on the ground and then be told to shut up about it? Your presence was not neccesary. You didn't even have your gun.

Having a weapon or not was not the issue. We could not carry weapons off the base. If you want to discount my account then obviously you would see no need for a de-briefing. Sadly, the incidents were of such national security significance that the debriefing was only the beginning. Within two weeks some witnesses took their lives. So when these events are played down and sillified it just pushes me forward as it has since I blew the lid off this thing in 1982.

NSA definitely the major player. Halt is right in his statement but, I feel Mr. Halt's statement also removes command personnel from any responsibility in regard to the medling, violation of our civil and constitutional rights while under their command, it's a cop out!

As outrageous as the statement may be, I don't think any of us know exactly what the full extent of the NSA's charter is. We do believe thru our research that NSA has a surface and sub-surface in regard to the ufo issue. And our best interests as citizens of the US/UK are not in their hearts!
