Good evening, everyone. Welcome to High Strangeness on Prime Time Live. My name is Patrick Huyghe and our guest is Budd Hopkins. When I first met Budd back in the late 1970s he was a well known painter. Since then he has become even better known for his work on the UFO abduction phenomenon; he has actually been the driving foce behind much of the research in this field. Budd has written three books on the subject: Missing Time, Intruders, and his newest, Witnessed: The True Story of the Brooklyn Bridge Abductions, published in hardback by Pocket Books. The entire book centers on the abduction of a woman named Linda that took place on Nov. 30, 1989 and its aftermath. It's an enormosly complicated story. Now Budd, show us that the impossible is possible by summarizing the story in a couple of sentences--for those who might not be familiar with it.

The story is enormously complex. The most important features are two: that in this one case, an abduction was witnessed by independent witnesses, and 2, that it represents what seems to be an attempt by the UFO occupants to affect earthly political attitudes. This case took six years and a six hundred page manuscript to explain. Well over a score of people were involved. interested in what proved to be an extremely important case will take tyhe time to read the book and learn the full extent of the evidence.

I am opposed to outing anyone and I am hoping that he will ultimately realize his responsibility and come forward - voluntarily - and discuss his involvememnt. The world will be served - and truth - if he would do so.

There has been speculation from the beginning, but I will follow his wishes and do as he requested. I have never denied nor confirmed any of the names that have come forward, except to say that the third man is not Margaret Thatcher.

Ha, Ha. Let's move on... Since this case flies in the face of common sense and experience, one has to eliminate more prosaic explanations. I know that Linda was seen by psychiatrists and psychologists. Did they consider the possibility of Munchausen syndrome--that she may be making it all up without knowing it?

Munchhausen's syndrome is not relevant because of the independent witnesses and a great deal of other internal evidence - such as my meeting with the third man. The only possible explanation is that of an enormous plot, a scam involving a large number of men, women and children. The reader of the book can decided what he or she thinks about that possibility. Linda has been examined by a psychologist who tested her with standarized tests, and was interviewed by two psychiatrists. None saw any sign that she is capable of orchestrating such a vast and intricate scam.

But wouldn't it be easier to believe that this is an enormous scam by someone, some group, who used Linda and a bunch of other people, to set you up--than to think this is all due to ALIENS?

Using Occam's razor, and knowing what I've learned over twenty years, it's easier to believe that the events happened than it is to believe that this woman could - would - arrange such a vast and complicated plot. Those who accept the idea of UFO abductions will understand this. Those who reject the idea of abductions will be forced by tbeir own narrow idea of what is possible to insist that all of this - all of it - is a human scam, including the third man's participation.

Fair enough. Now I must say that I was fascinated by the story you tell in the book, how all the parts, seem to fit together no matter how much the story expands. But I was bothered by the hypnosis technique you use at times of "imagine..." when you're fishing for information that you are looking for. It's a kind of leading question, isn't it?

If you cite a particular passage in a transcript I'll attempt to answer it. I am used to being attacked for leading, but no one ever cites a specific instance from my published transcripts. The central point about the testimony in the book is that the majority of it his elicited without hypnosis.

I don't have the book with me, and to look it up now would waste time. But I will check those references and respond to you. Still the main point is that most of the testimony - and the physical evidence, has nothing to do with hypnosis.
