Scenario #5: The Elvis Parade
What Is Emotional Style?
Your emotional style is your general temperament and typical way of
dealing with stress. People who have low emotional styles tend to be
confident, easy-going, and generally composed. People with high emotional
styles tend to be more moody, anxious, hostile, and even fearful.
After you have weighed your idealistic expectations of yourself against your
realistic sense of how you would respond, consider inviting another person to
participate in this exercise with you. If you do so, we suggest that you
discuss the ways in which each of you envisioned yourself and each other
handling "The Elvis Parade." What do the predictions each of you make tell
you about the expectations you have of one another? How do these
expectations influence the underlying dynamics of your relationship?
