The Berkeley Personality Profile

by Keith Harary, Ph.D.

About the Test

The Berkeley Personality Profile was first published in OMNI Magazine in 1992. It was subsequently published in book form in 1994 as Who Do You Think You Are? Explore Your Many-Sided Self With the Berkeley Personality Profile by Keith Harary, Ph.D. and Eileen Donahue, Ph.D.(Harper San Francisco) and later released by Multicom as an interactive CD-ROM. (A revised and expanded edition of the book was published by Penguin Putnam in 2005.)

This state-of-the-art personality test provides important insights into the way you see yourself and the way in which you are seen by others in a wide range of circumstances. The full-color charts and profiles provided in the book allow you to compare and contrast your actual, ideal, and feared visions of your personality with the way you are viewed by your family, friends, romantic partners, and coworkers. Each perspective is explored using the five basic dimensions of personality: Expressive Style, Interpersonal Style, Work Style, Emotional Style, and Intellectual Style.

In the Internet version of the Berkeley Personality Profile here at OMNI, you'll be able to explore and discuss these aspects of yourself with others.

Please remember, any differences in the way that you and others perceive your personality do not represent a failing on anyone's part, or any inherent underlying weakness in your relationships. Instead, these differences may reveal normal variations in style and the individual standards of comparison people bring to relationships. We also ask you to keep in mind that the exercises we'll be presenting are not meant to serve as a basis for any form of psychotherapy or couples therapy. We urge those who have a history of psychological or relationship problems to check with a professional counselor or therapist before proceeding.
